The 2009 Gewurztraminer is a perfect summer sipper. I would go so far as to call it a case-worthy wine you can rely on to deliver above its price point. I was excited to find this, as I’m always on the lookout for affordable whites that can play both aperitif and dinner-table companion. The wine is Alsatian in style and is on the dry side for a Gewurz. The aromatics are perfumed with flavors of honeysuckle, warm river stones, fruit cocktail, spice and a hint of ginger lingering on the finish. The cool nights of Potter Valley give this Gewurz bright and refreshing acidity. It’s ready to drink now either as an aperitif or as a companion to Asian cuisine, curry dishes, creamy cheeses, crème brûlées or custards.
